Einstein and God
The Montgomery County Science and Religion Discussion Group met on January 9,
2011 to discuss Albert Einstein's view of science and religion. Four articles were used as
the primary base of discussion, all of which are available on the web. Below you will
find the invitation that was sent out to the group members. Feel free to use this as a
template.

Dear Science and Religion Participant,
Happy New Year to all! I hope your holiday season was filled with great joy and
fellowship. The Montgomery County Science and Religion Discussion Group will begin
our meetings for 2011 on January 9 at 7:00 PM at Grace United Methodist Church in
Gaithersburg. Our program will consist of a guided discussion of Albert Einstein’s
understanding of religion. To prepare for the discussion, I have identified a few short
articles to read before hand.
First, please read four articles by Albert Einstein published in the 1930s and 1940s. They
can be found here:

In addition, if you are interested, check out this web site for some additional texts by

You might also want to read a recent article by Michael Shermer, publisher of Skeptic
magazine, a monthly columnist for Scientific American, and an adjunct professor at

What are the three main take-aways you get from reading these articles?
Do they support or challenge your own understanding of religion and/or science?
Are you uncomfortable with any of the ideas presented?
Are there any ideas that make you rethink your own position?
In what ways do you feel the author is mistaken?
Please read what you can but, if you not able to get through them all, come anyway.
